Bayesian Concentration Ratio and Dissonance

نویسندگان

چکیده

We propose two new classes of Bayesian measure to investigate conflict among data sets from multiple studies. The first (“concentration ratio”) is used quantify the amount information provided by a single set through comparison prior and its posterior distribution, or according their corresponding distributions. second class (“dissonance”) quantifies extent contradiction between sets. Both are based on volumes highest density regions. They well calibrated, supported simulation, computational algorithms for calculation. illustrate these in three real applications: benchmark dose toxicology study, missing study related health effects pollution, pediatric cancer leveraging adult data.

Fourier-ratio deconvolution and its Bayesian equivalent.

We discuss how an inner-shell electron energy-loss spectrum can be processed using Bayesian (maximum-entropy or maximum-likelihood) deconvolution to simultaneously remove plural scattering and improve the energy resolution. As in Fourier-ratio deconvolution, a low-loss spectrum (recorded from the same area of specimen) is used as a kernel or resolution function. This procedure avoids the need t...

Bayesian Factor Analysis via Concentration

We consider factor analysis when we assume the distribution form is known up to its mean and variance. A prior is placed on the mean and variance and then inference is made as to whether or not any latent factors exist. Inference is carried out by comparing the concentrations of the prior and posterior about various subsets of the parameter space that are specified by hypothesizing factor struc...

Cognitive Dissonance and Choice

People like to feel good about past decisions. This paper models selfjusti…cation of past decisions. The model is axiomatic: axioms are de…ned on preference over ex ante actions (modeled formally by menus). The representation of preference admits the interpretation that the agent adjusts beliefs after taking an action so as to be more optimistic about its possible consequences. In particular, t...

Odor Concentration Invariance by Chemical Ratio Coding

Many animal species rely on chemical signals to extract ecologically important information from the environment. Yet in natural conditions chemical signals will frequently undergo concentration changes that produce differences in both level and pattern of activation of olfactory receptor neurons. Thus, a central problem in olfactory processing is how the system is able to recognize the same sti...

Cognitive Dissonance

Almost half a century ago social psychologist Leon Festinger developed the cognitive dissonance theory (Festinger, 1957). The theory has obviously stood the test of time in that it is mentioned in most general and social psychology textbooks today. The theory is somewhat counterintuitive and, in fact, fits into a category of counterintuitive social psychology theories sometimes referred to as a...
